WASA Completes Shutdown Works At Caroni Water Treatment Plant Ahead Of Time

At 8am today, operations at the Caroni Water Treatment Plant were restarted ahead of time.

The Water and Sewerage Authority says the supply restored on the South system firstly.

WASA congratulates all members of the various teams, who worked to execute a total of 24 different jobs, associated with critical electrical maintenance at the Caroni Plant, as well as key ancillary works along the Caroni North and South transmission pipeline network.

The process of re-energizing the Caroni transmission/distribution pipeline network may result in a discolored water supply.

The Authority is currently carrying out flushing protocols throughout the network, which is expected to result in the system fully clearing over the next 24 hours.

Customers, who may be receiving a discoloured supply, are advised to let their taps run until it clears.

Customers in most affected areas are expected to have their service restored over a 24 – 48-hour period, in accordance with established supply schedules.

However, some customers at the extremities of the distribution system, particularly at the furthest areas in South Trinidad, may experience longer delays in having their service restored.

The amended water supply schedules to areas impacted by the planned shutdown will be available on the Authority’s website and social media pages.

The Authority also reminds affected customers that a truck borne service can be requested through the following self-service options:

  • Use of the mobile WASA Services App which can be downloaded for Android mobile customers from the Play Store or iPhone mobile customers from the Apple store; or
  • Use of the Customer Portal available on the Authority’s website: www.wasa.gov.tt

For further information or assistance, customers can contact our Customer Call Centre toll free at 800 4420/26.

The Authority thanks the public for their patience and understanding over the period of this disruption in service.
