WASA has advised that emergency repairs to a leaking 12-inch diameter transmission pipeline along the Piarco offtake have been completed.
According to the Water and Sewerage Authority, they were finished at roughly 2:30 am today (Monday 12 August 2024).
WASA customers in North Trinidad served by the Caroni Water Treatment Plant were without a water supply while emergency repairs were carried out at the Piarco offtake during the past 24 hours.
According to an official statement from the water authority, operations along the North transmission system are gradually being restored to normal capacity.
“Customers are advised that it may take 24 to 48 hours for the service to normalize to some areas, in accordance with established water supply schedules,” WASA said.
The Authority is urging its customers not to panic if they experience discolouration in their water supply, as the service is restored and the system primed.
“The Authority is engaging in system flushing exercises, to minimize such occurrences,” WASA explained. “However, customers experiencing a discoloured supply should allow their water to run until it clears.”
WASA says its Customer Contact Centre and water trucking service will remain in high activation for the next 24 to 48 hours after restoration of full supply to both the North and South transmission system.
In addition, it also is making available, upon request, a limited truck borne service.
