Wanted man escapes during attempted arrest

A man wanted in connection with five criminal offences, shot at police as they attempted to arrest him on Friday in Princes Town.

At around 6 p.m. a team of officers saw the suspect, who is of Fifth Company, on Moruga Road sitting in the front passenger seat of a white BT-50 pick up van that was headed in a westerly direction.

When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect ran into the nearby bushes.

The police gave chase and the suspect turned around and fired at them.

In keeping with the Use of Force policy, one officer discharged a round of 5.56 ammunition from his service issued Galil in a bid to disarm the suspect.

However, the suspect continued running into the bushes and again turned and fired at the officers.
He then escaped.
