Voluntary Recall Of Quaker Oats Granola Bars and WanaBana Applesauce Pouches

Quaker Oats Granola Bars and WanaBana Applesauce Pouches are being recalled due to contamination.

The recall issued by Quaker Oats, is due to salmonella contamination in more than two dozen cereal bars and granola bars.

The Ministry of Health says Salmonella is a dangerous bacterium which can lead to severe illnesses when it enters the bloodstream.

The Food and Drug Administration in the United States of America has also issued a recall of apple sauce pouches, produced by manufacturer WanaBana LLC, as a result of elevated lead levels.

The FDA in its statement identified three specific WanaBana products for recall: apple cinnamon fruit puree, Schnucks apple sauce pouches with cinnamon and Weis cinnamon apple sauce.

Lead is toxic to humans and can affect people of any age or health status.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Ministry of Health advises persons who may be in possession of the recalled products to discontinue use immediately.

Additionally, information can be obtained by contacting the Office of the Director of the Chemistry, Food and Drug Division via email at [email protected] or at 217- 4664 ext 13101.

The Ministry of Health will continue to monitor the situation and advise the population as necessary.
