Venezuelan migrant at the Coast Guard Heliport Base tests positive for COVID-19

The Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force is now on full alert as a Venezuelan migrant who is being housed at the Coast Guard Heliport Base has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the TTDF, the group of Venezuelan migrants who arrived on Sunday 29 November 2020, were tested for COVID-19.

Results of those tests were received and showed that one of the migrants tested positive for COVID-19.

That TTDF reported the person has thus been placed separate from everyone else in the Infirmary Department of the Heliport.

However, “COVID-19 protocols require that all persons who were in primary contact with that positive migrant have to be treated as positive.”

They will now be quarantined for the next fourteen (14) days.

During this period the TTDF said all physical visits from the outside by persons concerned to the Heliport is now restricted.

“It means therefore that all persons who were in primary contact with this group must also now consider themselves at risk and take steps accordingly.”

It is to be noted that the person who tested positive is presently asymptomatic.
