Venezuelan held for smuggling 4 Illegal immigrants at Guapo

A 34-year-old Venezuelan was detained and is assisting detectives with their investigations into the detention of four illegal immigrants yesterday.

The suspect, who resides in Happy Village, Gasparillo, was arrested on January 20th, when officers of the South-Western Division Emergency Response Patrol (ERP) intercepted a vehicle being driven along the Southern Main Road, Guapo. The vehicle was overcrowded.

ERP officers later discovered the driver along with four Venezuelan men, ages 20, 26, 28 and 43 onboard.

The other four men were detained and conveyed to the Siparia Health Facility where they underwent COVID-19 testing. Detention orders were subsequently obtained for the four men who will be handed over to the Immigration Division where they are expected to be repatriated to their homeland.

South-Western Division Police are continuing to encourage anyone who has information on suspected illegal immigrants to contact the police immediately at 555.
