Venezuelan charged with having AR-15 rifle

A Venezuelan is expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate today charged with a series of offences arising out of a road traffic stop last Sunday.

DAWEL ARGENIS NORIEGA SOLOZANO, 24, of Centenary Street, California, Couva, was charged by Cpl Thomas, of the St. James Police Station, with possession of firearm, dangerous driving, driving without a valid certificate of insurance and driver’s permit and uttering a forged document.

The charges stem from an incident on June 27th during which police stopped a white Tiida motor vehicle driven dangerously by a lone suspect.

Police officers subsequently conducted a search of the vehicle during which they allegedly discovered a AR-15 rifle which was wrapped in plastic and cloth.

The man, who was reportedly unable to provide police with a valid driver’s permit, valid certificate of insurance and who issued forged documents, was arrested.

He was later charged for the offences following further investigations.
