Vendor fined for DUI and obscene language

A 43-year old vendor was fined $5,000 for driving under the influence of alcohol, and $200 for using obscene language by a Rio Claro Magistrate this morning.

The man was arrested and charged yesterday for the offences in the Princes Town district.
At around 9.35 am on February 3rd 2021, PC Charles and other officers of the Princes Town Municipal Police Station, were on foot patrol along Waterlane Street, when they observed a man driving a silver Nissan AD Wagon attempting to park along the said street in breach of a No Parking sign.

The officers approached the man and informed him of the offence he was committing to which he became irritated and used obscene language towards them.

The man was identified as AYO SPAN, 43, of St. Croix Road, Princes Town. Whilst informing the man of the offences he was committing, PC Charles observed that his eyes were red, his speech slurred and a strong scent of alcohol was emanating from his breath.

A field sobriety test was administered which read 94 milligrammes of alcohol over the legal limit of 35 milligrammes of alcohol.
SPAN was subsequently conveyed to the Princes Town Municipal Police Station where he was charged for the offences of using obscene language and driving under the influence of alcohol.
