Valencia man charged with 2020 murder

A 28-year-old Valencia man appeared virtually before Senior Magistrate (Ag) Cheron Raphael at the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court today, Friday 26th March, 2021, charged with murder.
JONATHAN BERNARD was charged with the murder of KEVIN TORRES, following the advice of Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ms. Joan Honore-Paul. The matter was adjourned to Friday 23rd April, 2021.
Around 10 pm Friday 23rd October, 2020, a man while entering his Sellier Street, Sangre Grande home, observed a man lying motionless in the yard. The man also observed a Nissan B-14 vehicle parked a short distance away.
The man then contacted the police. Around 10:05 pm officers attached to the Sangre Grande Police Station, responded to the report.
On arrival at the scene, officers observed the body of the deceased, KEVIN TORRES lying off the roadway in the open yard.
The District Medical Officer visited the scene, viewed the body, made a pronouncement, issued a referral and ordered the removal of the body pending a post mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre.
Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene and retrieved one spent nine millimetre shell casing and swabs of both hands of the deceased.
The Nissan B-14 vehicle was conveyed to SERU on wrecker and escorted by the Homicide C.S.I.s.
Investigations were conducted following which Bernard was arrested and charged.
