Vaccines from India delayed

There has been a delay in the arrival of the shipment of Covishield vaccines from India.

The 40,000 doses of Covishield (Oxford-AstraZeneca) vaccines were expected to arrive on Monday, but the Ministry of Health’s Principal Medical Officer of Institutions, Dr Maryam Abdool-Richards said they have not received those vaccines as yet.”

Speaking at Monday’s MOH media briefing, Abdool-Richards said “the actual importation date has been delayed due to extenuating circumstances or circumstances that are beyond our control.”

She said “The Ministry of Health will provide updates once a confirmed date is given.”

In an email on Tuesday April 6th,

India High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago, Arun Kumar Sahu, had indicated last Tuesday that the doses would arrive on Monday April 12th and that the necessary logistics had been put in place for its delivery.
