Unvaccinated minor among 3 new cases of Delta COVID variant

The Ministry of Health has confirmed three new cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19.

In a release on Sunday evening, the MoH said that the three cases include a national who recently travelled to Trinidad from Venezuela; an unvaccinated minor and an unvaccinated adult.

Epidemiological investigations are currently underway into the source of transmission of the latter two.

These news cases have brought the total number of cases of the Deltra variant, which have been confirmed for Trinidad and Tobago to 10.

The Ministry said the presence of the Delta variant was concerned via gene sequencing at the laboratory of the Faculty of Medical Science, UWI.

All patients have been placed in isolation until the enhanced discharge criteria for persons with Covid-19 variants of concern is achieved. Contact tracing, testing and quarantining have been initiated.
