UNC Women’s arm protest against high food prices and crime at Penal

UNC’s Woman’s Arm led a protest in Penal on Saturday to take a stand against rising food prices and crimes against women.

Beating empty pots, the protesters, all don in black, marched down the SS Erin Road chanting “Rowley must go!” and called on the Government to do more to boost local food production.

Public relations officer of the UNC’s Women’s Arm Marisa Ramlogan said “People’s pots and pans are empty. They have no food, and this Prime Minister only raising taxes to cripple poor people.”

Siparia councillor Ramona Victor, who was spotted with a bag of flour and tinned foods.

“What they want us to do? Riot? This Prime Minister has to go. People are starving. This is what some people have to eat. They cannot afford to buy food,” she said.
