UNC threatens court over impeachment handling

The Opposition has indicated its intention to bring House Speaker Bridgid Annisette-George before the courts for what they described as the “illegal guidelines” issued with respect to the impeachment motion against President Paula-Mae Weekes.

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar speaking at the UNC’s virtual meeting on Monday said: “We will be taking legal action. I serve notice on the unilateral, illegal guidelines used by the Speaker.”

The action she says will come as part of the party’s October Revolution which she described as a peaceful revolution aimed at politically demolishing the forces which prevent citizens from enjoying progression, the standard of living they deserve and accomplishing the goals they have.

She explained that during this time the UNC will engage in “on the ground” mobilisation of party members, public education and participation, international outreach, and outreach to non-traditional voters.
