UNC tells Regis it is not her place to seek response from Kamla

Chairman of the PNM’s Women’s League Camille Robinson-Regis is calling on Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar to respond to the comments made by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley. In Parliament on Monday night, Dr. Rowley said that the Opposition Leader told Port-of-Spain MP Marlene McDonald about her arrest weeks in advance.

Robinson-Regis, who is also the Planning Minister, said the Prime Minister did not know about the arrest neither did the Attorney General, Faris Al-Rawi. Yet, McDonald confirmed that Persad-Bissessar told her about her arrest weeks before. Robinson-Regis said the Opposition Leader has ran afoul of the law and must address the people of the country directly, instead of sending one of her minions to do her job.

But Public Relations Officer of the UNC Anita Hayes said that it is not the place of the PNM’s Women’s League to urge the UNC to make statements on any issue. She said Robinson-Regis should prompt the Prime Minister to focus on issues of national importance such as national security and the economy.
