UNC stands in solidarity with Haiti, Cuba and South Africa

The United National Congress says it is standing in solidarity with the people of Haiti, Cuba and South Africa.

UNC says it should be extremely disturbing for all right-thinking persons to watch the descent into chaos and violence in three countries that have been very important to us and our history in Trinidad and Tobago.

In a media release the UNC says it has always supported good governance, and people’s right to peaceful protest.

It says dissent and political expression are essential for a free society.

However, violence, looting and pitting citizens against each other must always be condemned.

The UNC says it stands with all those home and abroad who stand up for democracy and the rule of law.

It says Trinidad and Tobago is hoping and praying the events in Haiti, Cuba and South Africa will be resolved peacefully and the democratic rights of people will be respected.
