UNC says there was reasonable voter turnout for internal election

UNC election management team chairman Ramesh Persad-Maharaj said there had been a reasonable voter turnout for the United National Congress (UNC) internal election on Sunday.

Approximately 120,000 voters were eligible to vote at the 78 polling stations located in T&T’s 41 constituencies.

However all official numbers are expected later today.

Persad-Maharaj declared the first position for the Star slate around 7.30 pm last night, as Star candidate Bheemal Ramlogan won the post of Tobago regional co-ordinator with 13 votes.
Lotus team contestant for the same post, Barrington Thomas, polled two votes.

Some unofficial data showed that Persad-Bissessar won in Moruga/ Tableland, 565, Bharath 64; in St Ann’s East, Persad-Bissessar 102, Bharath 3; in Point Fortin Persad-Bissessar 89,Bharath 5; in Arima, Persad-Bissessar 59; Bharath 21.

Her overall figures, unofficially, were 14,873 votes; Bharath 2,198.
