UNC not supporting Evidence Amendment Bill

The Opposition will not be supporting the Evidence Amendment Bill which will be debated in the House of Representatives today.

So said Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal.

Moonilal said the UNC remains consistent with its initial opposition to the Bill “and our legal minds will speak on it today.”

The Bill, which aids the criminal justice and crime fighting system, facilitates admission of evidence via CCTV and other electronic forms to be used in courts, caters for evidence by people under 18 and witnesses and also creates safety for evidence.

The Bill was passed in the Senate recently minus Opposition support and it can now be passed by a simple majority, which meant it doesn’t require Opposition votes.
