Minister in the Ministry of Finance Brian Manning is today defending the recent Standard and Poors rating which confirmed the country’s BBB- credit rating and also upgraded the country’s economic outlook from negative to stable.
Economist Dr Valmiki Arjoon last week told News Power Now that this does not affect the average man and that is does not address the increasing cost of living facing citizens.
Mr Manning in response however said this is not true as it affects the interest rate at which citizens can borrow money and thereby impacts the cost of living.
Speaking on Power 102 Digital’s Power Breakfast Show, Minister Manning also responded to UNC criticism by MP Rushton Paray who said the country’s credit rating is just one grade above junk.
However, Mr Manning said MP Paray should “bat in his crease” and maintained that T&T is the only country in the region that has attained investor ratings from the Standard and Poors and also has the lowest cost of living in the region.
