On Sunday, T&T joined the United Nations in observing the International Day of Epidemic Preparedness.
And, on that day, Opposition MP Dr. Rai Ragbir used the opportunity to share some ideas of his own with the government, and is calling for the implementation of a robust action-plan designed for a more resilient healthcare system towards any future epidemic or pandemic.
He says the policy must have widespread dissemination of information and education to the population, as facilities must become centers of public learning and not just places where illnesses are treated.
Dr Ragbir said Government must create a reserve of health care workers, pharmacists, care assistants, and other professionals, who can be mobilized to respond in a short time.
Storing reserve capacity of supplies such as PPE, and maintaining hospital beds that can be quickly transformed into critical care beds, were just a few more critical issues he urged government to get a jump on
