UNC mourns passing of former PRO

The United National Congress, (UNC) is today mourning the loss of its former Public Relations Officer, Lloyd Williams.

The party, in a release, said Wiiliams died at the age of 89.

The UNC said it is pleased to have honoured and recognised Lloyd in life, writing up a Feature on him and his contribution to the party in August 2021, and honouring him with a Service Award at the UNC’s 35th Anniversary function in April 2024.

Due to his illness at the time, the award was collected on his behalf by Senator Wade Mark.

Lloyd Williams started his political life as a dedicated member of the United Labour Front (ULF), through the NAR, into Club88, and then the UNC.

He was a member of the 1st National Executive of the UNC, serving as the Public Relations Officer of the Party for approximately six (6) years, under the then Political Leader, Mr. Basdeo Panday. He was succeeded as PRO by Hulsie Bhaggan, and trained her for the role.

Besides serving on the National Executive, Lloyd engaged in community work in the Port of Spain South Constituency, and represented the UNC in Local government Elections in 1996, contesting the seat as a Councillor for St. James West.

He piloted an annual program for three (3) years under the Party’s auspices called “Tribute to Unsung Heroes”, where he honoured nationals of Trinidad and Tobago, never recognized by any serving government, who contributed to the promotion of our Culture, Sports, Academics and Humanitarian Recognition.

He served on several state boards, via appointments from both Mr. Basdeo Panday and Mrs. Kamla Persad Bissessar and always remained a loyal supporter and soldier of the UNC, with his wife constantly by his side.

The UNC said it is grateful for his service and life.
