Ukraine: UN Committee Calls For Urgent Evacuation Of Disabled Persons In Russian Occuppied Areas

The United Nations Committee for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is calling for urgent evacuation of disabled people living in institutions in Ukrainian areas under Russian control.

It claims the committee had received reports of people being used as human shields and being denied access to basic care.

At least 12 people, the committee said, had died in one of the facilities in the occupied territories.

No evidence was given by the Russian Federation to the report.

During a news briefing, the Committee said it was “gravely concerned” about the safety of disabled people in institutions in both Ukraine and the occupied territories.
