Two Men Held For Arms And Ammunition In Barataria.

An intelligence-led anti-crime exercise resulted in two men being arrested for possession of a firearm and ammunition in two separate incidents.

The exercise was carried out by members of the Morvant Criminal Investigation Department, Northern Eastern Division Gang Intelligence Unit, and NED Task Force in the Barataria area.

Based on information received, officers executed a search warrant at a house at 7th Street, Malick, Barataria, occupied by a 26-year-old man.

When officers entered the house, the man was allegedly seen at the top on the staircase with a firearm in his hand.

Upon seeing the officers, he ran and dropped the firearm in a bin.

Officers chased after the man and apprehended him a short distance away and retrieved one Glock 17 pistol fitted with a magazine containing 16 rounds of nine millimetre ammunition from the bin.

The man was then arrested and conveyed along with the seized firearm to the Morvant Police Station.

In a separate incident, officers proceeded to a house at 6th Avenue, Malick, Barataria, where another search warrant was executed.

On arrival officers met a 23-year-old man who occupied the house.

A search was conducted and one silver and black Ruger P95EC pistol fitted with a magazine containing seven rounds of nine millimetre ammunition, was found on a table.

Officers seized the firearm and arrested the man.

He was taken to the Morvant Police Station.

The exercise was conducted on Monday during the hours of 2pm and 11.30pm and was a part of Operation Strike Back.
