Two Men Charged With Various Driving Related Offences.

Two men, of Sangre Grande and D’abadie, pleaded guilty when they appeared before the Arima Magistrates’ Court Monday charged with various driving- related offences.

KERRON BUCHAN, 32, of Eastern Main Road, Sangre Grande, and REM SAMMY, 42, of Arima Old Road, D’abadie, appeared before Magistrate Avion Gill to answer the charges.

Buchan was fined seven hundred and fifty dollars for driving without a driver’s permit, eight hundred dollars for exceeding the speed limit and two thousand, five hundred dollars for driving without a valid Certificate of Insurance.

He has three months to pay; failure to do so would result in him serving seven months’ simple imprisonment.

Sammy was fined two thousand, five hundred dollars for driving whilst under the influence of alcohol.

He has four months to pay; failure to do so would result in him serving two months’ simple imprisonment.

On the night of August 20th 2021, officers were conducting a joint Speed and Breathalyzer exercise in the Arima district when they detected the offences being committed by both men.

When stopped, SAMMY was administered a field sobriety test which read 69 milligrams, which is 34 milligrams over the legal limit of 35 milligrams of alcohol.

They were both arrested and charged by WPC Superville, of the Arima Municipal Police Station.

In the same exercise, 33 persons were ticketed for exceeding the speed limit and two persons were ticketed for failing to wear a facemask whilst in a public place.
