TTUTA satisfied with teachers’ decision to stay away from school yesterday

The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association says that it was pleased with teachers’ response to their call to stay away from school yesterday.

Teachers were called upon to use Monday – the first day of the school term as a day of rest and reflection.

The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association claimed this was necessary to show the dissatisfaction with the four percent being offered by the Chief Personnel Officer during negotiations taking place.

President of the Association Antonia Teckah Defreitas said in an interview last evening said that while a significant percentage of teachers chose to stay home on Monday it was not meant to be a disruptive force or hamper students’ learning.

She said if TTUTA had the Education Minister’s ear tomorrow they would discuss a number of outstanding issues in the education sector that need attention.

She said if they were to speak with the CPO, they would strongly suggest a readjustment to the presentation.
