TTUTA: Edu Min must revise protocols on bomb threats in schools

While the Education Ministry followed protocols in dealing with last week’s bomb scare to more than 55 schools, more needs to be put in place to treat with issues of that nature.

This is according to TTUTA President Martin Lum kin.

Widespread bomb threats seemingly targeting the nation’s secondary schools are now in the hands of the Cyber Crime Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).

At a media conference on Friday, Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly condemned the act, which saw the early dismissal of schools across Trinidad and Tobago.

She said protocol was followed and confirmed the matter is in the hands of the police.

Gadsby-Dolly made an appeal to those behind the threats, sent to schools via email on Friday, to think about how their actions have affected students.

Lumkin says that schools could not have been dismissed unless there necessary clearance.

He said the Education Ministry’s protocols need to be revised.
