TTUTA calls for parental training as children being given chores during online school

President of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association, Antonia Tekah-De Freitas has issued a call for parents to receive training from the Ministry of Education, as online learning is set to continue in the January term.

She said a lot of lessons were learnt during this first term and as they seek to improve going forward, one of things needed would be for parents to receive training on the do’s and don’ts of online learning.

Defreitas said parents need to be aware that when a child is at home and online, “there must be full attention for the period that the child is engaged with the teacher. That should not be interrupted until the break time has been reached.”

She also made mention of situations where students could not log on or did not log on at all for the day’s activities. “We had students who logged on but because they were at home they were being asked to do things around the home.”
