TTPS’ victims support unit provides tools to victims of crime with vision impairments

The Victim and Witness Support Unit (VWSU) of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) recently partnered with the Blind Welfare Association of Trinidad and Tobago, to provide tools to victims of crime with vision impairments, to assist in regaining control over their lives.

The partnership comprised a two-day workshop, conducted on April 25th, 2023 and May 2nd, 2023, titled ‘Introduction to Elements of Counselling and Types of Counselling’.
It was delivered to the Welfare Officers and Counsellors of the Association.

This specialised support is meant to enable victims to perceive themselves as survivors and in most instances, to achieve full engagement with society once again.

The VWSU is driven to serve persons with vision impairment by a two-fold desire to address the trauma of victimisation and to move crime victims with vision impairment from outside of the criminal justice system, to the centre of the process.

The partnership and workshops were spearheaded by Deputy Manager and Clinical Director of the VWSU, Mr. Kirk Pierre.
