TTPS Tackles Violent Crimes Through Community Conflict Resolution Centers

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is assisting citizens in preventing and solving conflicts amicably through several approaches.

The latest initiative comes in the form of the Community Conflict Resolution Centre Programme which was launched Wednesday at the TTPS Police Administration Building, Port-of-Spain.

This is another step in helping communities to mediate disputes as the TTPS recently launched its Community Justice Clinic which also assists citizens with free legal advice to treat with land and domestic issues.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mc Donald Jacob, said the importance of this preventative strategy toward reducing violent crimes in the Northern Division, which currently is recording the highest number of serious and violent crimes.

DCP Jacob pledged the full support of the TTPS’ Executive and is looking forward to the programme being rolled out to other Divisions in the near feature.

The pilot project, will find its home at the St. Joseph Police Youth Club, located at the corner of Abercromby and Market Streets, St. Joseph.

Citizens will receive services provided in partnership with mediators of Officium Training Limited.

This team is made up of eleven mediators, clinical therapists, and law enforcement officers.

Residents of St Joseph will be able to access mediation and counseling services by calling 396-8322.
