The TTPS has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a prisoner, who was detained on Christmas Day pending inquiries into a report of wounding.
Dhanraj Moonan, 50, was found slumped over the toilet bowl while in a cell at the Tunapuna Police Station and he appeared unresponsive.
He was pronounced dead and his body removed from the station’s cell.
Manan was detained on Christmas Day following a report that three persons were wounded on Boodoo Street, El Dorado on Christmas Eve.
Meanwhile, the autopsy on Manan’s body, which was due to take place on Monday, is now expected for today.
Reports are that the autopsy failed to get underway on Monday as officials are awaiting a post mortem Covid-19 test.
