TTPS cautions against FAKE NEWS

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is today debunking information which has been circulating on social media about the Government monitoring social media.

According to the press release issued by the TTPS, members of the public are asked to be cautious of false information sent via social media, which can cause unnecessary panic and anxiety. To clear up any misinformation, the TTPS has advised of the following:

FACT 1: There are no new communication “regulations” that allow for illegal monitoring of social media in contravention of the Interception of Communications Act Chapter 15:08.

FACT 2: The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has not put out any related notification or advisory in relation to the above material.

Citizens are advised to refrain from sharing misleading information that can cause anxiety. Members of the public are advised to check and stay updated with TTPS Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for accurate information on matters relating to crime and policing.
