TTMS monitoring Tropical Depression in the Atlantic

A Tropical Wave east of the Lesser Antilles, which the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has been closely monitoring, has now intensified into Tropical Depression Ten.

According to a release, at 5 a.m. this morning, Tropical Depression Ten was centred near 14.0N 49.9W, located approximately 1320 km east-southeast of the Leeward Islands.

The system is moving towards the north-northwest near 11 km/hr and a general northward motion over the next several days is expected. On this forecast track, the system is expected to move into the open Atlantic, well to the east of the Lesser Antilles.

Some slight strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later today. We wish to underscore that this system poses no threat to Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada and its Dependencies.
