TTCG: 18 people held trying to enter T&T illegally

Eighteen people were detained after attempting to illegally enter Trinidad and Tobago.
In a statement on Saturday, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) said while conducting patrols of the South Coast of Trinidad, the TTS SCARBOROUGH detected a vessel South East of Anglais Point, Palo Seco after it had crossed the border of Trinidad and Tobago from Venezuela.
It said the boarding party on board the TTS SCARBOROUGH pursued the suspect vessel and discovered it abandoned 1000 yards South of Anglais Point.
The TTCG said further searches of the area were conducted where luggage and other personal belongings were discovered.
Upon further investigation, the crew saw evidence of human activity which led to extensive searches of the nearby forest.
The Coast Guard said these searches led to the discovery of 18 people attempting to illegally enter Trinidad and Tobago.
It added that they have since been detained and processed in accordance with health and immigration protocols.
