In what can only be described as a fitting tribute to their now deceased lead designer Bernard Beckles, Trinidad and Tobago was awarded a gold medal by the Royal Horticultural Society at the 2023 Chelsea Flower Show in the UK, for its presentation ‘This Our Native Land.’
Beckles died on May 3rd in the midst of prep work for the judging, which take place yesterday, May 22nd.
‘This Our Native Land’ is the final part of trilogy Beckles started in 2013 and the win completes a hattrick of golds that started in 2013 with Cazabon and Rhythms Of A People in 2019.
The floral design team included Shane Valentine, Neave McKenzie, Melissa Lee Foon, Andre Crawford, Simone Taylor and the team leader Tony Tang Kai.
