T&T Representatives Express Interest In Search For New UWI Vice Chancellor

Trinidad and Tobago representatives on the University of the West Indies Council are interested in the search for a new candidate to fill the position of Vice Chancellor of the UWI.

Minister of Education, Dr Nyan Gadsby Dolly, made the disclosure during the question and answer period in the House of Representatives Friday afternoon.

Dr Gadsby Dolly was asked to confirm whether a letter was sent to the Chancellor of the UWI in January 2021, in which the Government proposed a search be conducted for a new candidate to fill the position.

Dr Gadsby Dolly outlined how the process is being conducted and the desire indicated by this country’s input on the UWI Council relating to this development.

In a supplemental question, Member of Parliament for Naparima, Rodney Charles, wanted the minister can confirm whether the Report of the UWI Chancellor’s Commission on Governance, dated July 2020, contributed to the Government’s decision to not support the renewal of Sir Hilary Beckles’ contract as Vice-Chancellor of UWI.
