Preparation is being done in Trinidad and Tobago in readiness for the possible arrival of cases of monkey pox.

The update came from Chief Medical Officer, Dr Roshan Parasram, while speaking at the virtual covid-19 news briefing held on Wednesday.

The World Health Organization has stated the there have been 780 confirmed cases of monkey pox in countries where the virus is not usually found.

The WHO said cases had been identified in 27 countries.

Dr Parasram provided details on how this country will go about its mandate with respect to testing for monkey pox.

Very soon, Dr Parasram said, an emergency committee of the WHO will meet to discuss matters relating to monkey pox and determine whether it represents a public health emergency of international concern.
