Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said Trinidad and Tobago is in an economic pandemic under this PNM Government.
Speaking at the UNC’s virtual Monday night meeting last night, Persad-Bissessar said T&T’s oil and gas sectors have been destroyed, Petrotrin is now a scrap yard, Point Fortin and Santa Flora are now ghost towns, and that Point Lisas is the next junkyard in the making due to PNM’s failed policies.
She also said foreign direct investment is leaving T&T which has the worst regional outlook
According to Persad-Bissessar, “The country’s in an economic pandemic under this Government.”
“Greater than this, the impact will be catastrophic for the economy. The flagship company NGC will not be able to withstand this financial shock.”
On the recent repatriation of over 700 Venezuelans, Persad-Bissessar said the Venezuelans who fled their homeland to seek a better place in T&T are now returning to take their chances with the Maduro government.
She said Venezuelans told the UNC they couldn’t get jobs and food here and they were choosing to return.“Many of them tell us they’re seeing happening here, what happened in their own land with a dictatorial regime which destroyed a major oil and gas economy there. They say (Rowley) did the same things Maduro did to Venezuela.”
During her speech, she reiterated calls for a removal of the ‘failed’ Health team led by Terrence Deyalsingh, due to Covid-19 death toll, which is now nearing 1,000.
She said “If 900 people died from crime, would Gary Griffith still have a job? So why do we still have this failed Health team?”
She also reiterated her controversial comment that sunlight can kill Covid.
