T&T Coast Guard intercepts vessel crossing the border from Venezuela into Trinidad waters

On 19 April 2020, while conducting border security patrols, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) intercepted a vessel named ‘AMANDA’ off the Southwestern coast of Trinidad.

Public Relations Officer of the TTCG, Khadija Lamy, Lieutenant (N) issued a media release this evening with a report which states that the vessel had been observed crossing the border from Venezuela into Trinidad and Tobago waters.

On board were three (3) male Trinidad and Tobago Nationals. Upon searching the vessel, a cargo of shrimp was discovered.

The vessel was detained and its crew and cargo were handed over to representatives of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Customs and Excise Division and Immigration Division.

Investigations are continuing.

The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard says they will continue to provide border security services in the face of the threat of Covid-19 in order to maintain the safety and security of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago through the conduct of maritime security patrols within our area of operations.
