Transparency needed in the criteria for allocating national scholarships

There needs to be more transparency in the criteria for the allocation of national scholarships.
So says the Member of Parliament for Tabaquite, Anita Haynes.
She made the comment while speaking at the Opposition Weekly press briefing yesterday.

MP Haynes pointed out that the changes to the current scholarship allocation policy have left students with many questions.
She pointed to several changes that have been implemented by the Government which she believes has left some students in the lurch.

Ms Haynes suggested that a lack of clarity could dissuade students from aiming to achieve the lofty goals they once set for themselves.

She also noted that the timing of the Government’s announcement last year left many students hard done by as they had written an exam and prepared for a certain outcome only to be blindsided in the end.

The Tabaquite MP acknowledged the economic limitations facing the country but said the changes could have been better implemented so as not to disadvantage students at the last minute.
