FITUN President expects “harsh” budget to deal with T&T’s economy

President of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions Joseph Remy says he is not excited about the presentation of the National Budget.

He told the Power Breakfast Show on Monday morning that the concerning economic situation facing Trinidad and Tobago suggests that the presentation today will be harsh.

He articulated that there may be job losses post Budget presentation.

Remy explained that some of the measures implemented in the Budget may be so stringent that it may not be possible to create employment opportunities and hopes that the Prime Minister takes their recommendations into consideration and engage in stimulus packages to create opportunities.

Remy said that job opportunities and investment funds must be created to mitigate these losses.

He said he is in support of restructuring the public service to make it more efficient.
