The person who contracted the first case of the Delta variant of Covid-19 in Tobago was fully vaccinated.
This is confirmed by County Medical Officer of Health, Dr Tiffany Hoyte.
Dr Hoyte made the revelation while addressing Tobago’s Covid-19 news briefing on Thursday.
According to the senior medical official the development underscored the seriousness of the situation and the importance of people getting inoculated against the virus.
In a media release this week, the Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development in the Tobago House of Assembly said the individual has no travel history and is not a known contact of any positive case.
It said the confirmation of the Delta variant was received via gene sequencing at the Faculty of Medical Sciences Laboratory, University of the West Indies.
