Tobago sees it 1st COVID related death in 8 months

Tobago has seen its first COVID19 related death in eight months.

According to an update from the THA’s Division of Health and Wellness this morning, the deceased is a 62-year-old woman who passed away yesterday. She had comorbidities.

This latest COVID related fatality takes Tobago’s overall death toll to 3.

There are no new infections however, with the active case count there now at 57.

Since the start of the pandemic, Tobago has confirmed 265 COVID-19 infections.

Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development, Tracey Davidson-Celestine, was saddened by the loss and said “No one should have to die due to this virus. The staff did all it could, and our hearts go out to the family and loved ones. We will do our best to offer further emotional support at this time to loved ones.”

She further stated that “This should be a wakeup call for Tobagonians. We need to be vigilant and look out for everyone. This is not a joke, every life we lose is precious. The vaccine and proper mask wearing are our main lines of defence. Sanitizing and keeping six feet away are critical, We need people to get vaccinated and stay home, what we don’t need are more people to die.”
