Tobago records 18th murder – highest ever toll for the sister isle

Tobago police are currently investigating the murder of a 41-year-old man in Scarborough on Saturday.

The death of Ezra Sylvester comes days after he refused to identify his attackers after he was shot on July 26th.

Investigators suspect Sylvester, of Arnos Vale Road, Moriah, was fatally shot in a gang-related attack at 9.05 pm at the old First Citizens car park on Carrington Street.

Police received reports of a shooting around 8 pm. They arrived to find Sylvester suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the Scarborough General Hospital but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival at 9.15.

Police said the suspects, five masked men armed with firearms, were in a black Matrix and opened fire on Sylvester, who was sitting under a tent. Sylvester attempted to run but was chased by his attackers and shot multiple times.

Police later found the car used in the shooting abandoned along Milford Road in Scarborough.

Sylvester is now the island’s 18th murder victim this year.
