Tobago man granted $185k bail following rape, burglary charge

A 59-year-old man was granted combined bail in the sum of $185,000 with a surety when he appeared virtually before Magistrate Erica Baptiste at the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday 7th April, 2022, charged with rape, burglary, and breach of protection order.

Bail was set at $175,000 for the charges for rape and burglary, while bail for breach of protection order was set at $10,000.

According to a police report, on Friday 1st April, 2022 a man broke into a woman’s home then allegedly had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

WPC Leacock of the Gender-Based Violence Unit conducted an investigation into the report, which resulted in the arrest of a man who was charged with rape and burglary 6th April, 2022.

The third charge stemmed from an incident which occurred on Monday 4th April, where a 59-year-old man breached a protection order when he allegedly began using threatening and obscene language against a complainant.
WPC Kerr of the Gender-Based Violence Unit conducted an investigation and the man was charged on 6th April 2022.

He is expected to reappear at the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on 5th May 2022.
Investigations were supervised by W/Supt Ag. Claire Guy- Alleyne, ASP Ag. Bridglal and Insp Ag. Miller of the Gender-Based Violence Unit.
