A pirogue was stranded at sea close to the ‘Enchantment of the Seas’ vessel currently anchored approximately five miles off the port of Port-of-Spain.
Around 7:30am, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard received a report from the Captain on board the vessel, who said they may not be able to rescue the stranded persons as they are currently quarantining Trinidad and Tobago nationals.
A crew member on board the ship confirmed that three persons were stranded on board a boat named ‘ZIGGY’.
Persons onboard the ship called a ‘Mayday’ distress signal, but they have since confirmed that they are ok and no longer need rescue.
A crew member on board the Enchantment of The Seas vessel confirmed to the Coast Guard officials that the boat was safe, and that it was seen leaving the area to return to their original destination.
The boat may have gotten into difficulty because of the weather as it is reported to be raining heavily at sea.
They were reported to be seeking shelter from the strong winds.
Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has issued a yellow adverse weather alert for the country.
