Ancil Dennis was slated to be the new Chief Secretary at the Tobago House of Assembly Tobago, in a ceremony which began withing the last hour.
Mr Dennis was the only nominee for the top position, sources say, in the proceedings which were being presided over by the called by Clerk of the Assembly Cherry Anne Edwards-Louis.
Edwards-Louis explained in a memo yesterday that today’s proceedings was triggered after former THA Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles tendered his resignation last week.
Charles agreed to resign after losing a contentious internal election within the Tobago Council of the People’s National Movement to Tracy Davidson-Celestine in January.
Davidson-Celestine was subsequently installed as a councillor and appointed Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development, but cannot become Chief Secretary since she is not an elected member of the Assembly.
