The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services says to date it has received over thirty thousand applications for assistance under the social support measures.
It said a total of two thousand nine hundred and ninety-one applications were processed and sent to the Bank for payment.
In a media release the Ministry said this is through direct deposit for the persons who provided a bank account, or by a debit card for those persons who did not have a bank account.
The Ministry said it is to be noted that while the direct deposit payments are already in persons’ accounts, TTPost commenced the distribution of debit cards on May 1, and reports are that some persons have received their cards.
It said it has initiated mechanisms to fast track payments and it is expected that an estimated four thousand payments will be made on a weekly basis.
