The Mighty Bomber passes on at 93

The calypso fraternity is mourning the loss of veteran artist The Mighty Bomber.

Bomber, born Clifton Ryan, died on Saturday and his passing was confirmed by his son Sherwin Ryan on Facebook.

Bomber was 93 and would have celebrated his 94th birthday on January 30th.

According to reports, Grenadian-born Bomber migrated to Trinidad and Tobago in 1956 and started entering calypso competitions the following year.

In 1964 he created history when he defeated the Mighty Sparrow, winning the National Calypso King Competition in Trinidad with the songs Bomber’s Dream and James and Joan.

His hits included the songs: Proverbs, Mr Unfortunate, Juvenile Delinquency, ‘Despers vs Bunters, Animal Cricket Match, The Godfather, Professor Broomes, and Land Of Spice.
