“That can be the facilitation of human trafficking” Minister Young on deported Venezuelan children

National Security Minister, Stuart Young, says he does not have all facts surrounding the alleged deportation by Trinidadian officials of Venezuelan women and children.

However, Minister Stuart says he is hoping the action taken by the local authorities was done in line with the country’s laws.

The development has attracted comments from various quarters including Venezuelan Politician, Juan Guaido.

Mr Guaido said “the cruel treatment of Venezuelans who have been forced to migrate as a product of the dictatorship is painful and inhumane.”

He also said that placing several children on a boat to travel to another country without their parents or guardian can be human trafficking, as seen over time.

Minister Young said he has signed deportation orders for persons who have no T&T identification or Venezuelan ID cards.

Minister Young also revealed that Parliament will launch an investigation into claims of children being brought to the country without parental supervision.

Meanwhile Minister Young said he is not in a position to give any guarantee on whether the children have been safely returned.

However he did say the government will maintain its zero-tolerance position towards illegal migration of persons.
