Ten Venezuelans held for illegal entry into T&T

Ten Venezuelans were detained by officers of the Pt Fortin Municipal Police Task Force for illegal entry into Trinidad on Tuesday 16th February, 2021.

Around 12.15 am yesterday, officers of the Pt Fortin Municipal Police Task Force, were on a mobile patrol along Cap-de-Ville Main Road, when officers observed a silver Nissan Serena motor vehicle proceeding in the same direction, driving at a high speed and in a dangerous manner.

The officers became suspicious and they gave chase. The officers eventually discovered the said vehicle parked on Chatham Beach with no occupants.

The officers then conducted a search of the area, where they found and detained ten Venezuelans, inclusive of four adults and six children, hiding in the nearby bushes.

A further search for the driver of the vehicle was also conducted, but proved futile.

The motor vehicle registration information was recorded, and measures taken to ascertain the registered owner.

All detainees were searched and then conveyed to Pt Fortin Hospital where they were medically examined as a result of the Covid-19
protocols.

Two detainees were referred to the San Fernando General Hospital for further treatment. All other detainees were then conveyed to
the Santa Flora Police Station and are due to be conveyed to the Coast Guard Base at the Heliport in Chaguaramas.

Investigations are continuing.
