Two teenage girls were arrested and appeared before a Couva Magistrate yesterday to face charges of robbery with violence. The teens were among four arrested in relation to the deadly attack of the fishermen in the Gulf of Paria last week.
Two men, aged 25 and 27, were also arrested for robbery with violence and are expected to be charged but investigations are continuing into the matter. The four were arrested in Sealots hours after the robbery at sea during an exercise by officers of the Inter Agency Task Force and the Port of Spain Division.
Of the eight fishermen thrown overboard:
– one swam to shore
– five died and
– two are still missing.
